Human Nature

Why is it that we always want what we can't have and then when you get what you thought you always wanted, it's not what you wanted at all....or is it?
Confusion is my state of mind today.

Supply and Demand

So I just finished my 3rd day at my new job where I am a staffing coordinator. Some observations I have made so far are:
1. There are a lot of people out of work
2. There are a lot of people out of work who pretend they want to work but then refuse to work when a job is there for them. A good example of this is (which happened all day long), is someone calling in and saying "Do you have any work today?" and then we say "Yes, we do" and then they say "Oh- I just realized I have a family emergency." I think sometimes just calling in is work enough for some of these people.
3. There are a lot of people out of work who are willing to work and are very dependable.
4. It is interesting working at a place where you come in contact on a daily basis with people that have different ethnic backgrounds, personalities and skill sets. I like to call it "little" America. It's just one big melting pot which I really enjoy.
5. Being the newbie has saved me from dealing with some very scary and weird people. I wonder how long I will be considered new?

Oh Happy Day!

So I am finally gainfully employed! Yee Haw!!! It's about time! I actually got the job that I was wanting and of course when that happens, 3 other job offers come in! I am very happy and looking forward to this new challenge in my life. Thanks to my cousin who has been my rock here. Without you, I would've been miserable here and just spent time all day at the bar. Oh wait, I did do that anyway didn't I? (When I wasn't job searching of course) : ). Anyway, I also want to thank my other friends and family here in Columbus and back home who have been very supportive and wishing me well this whole time. Not to get sappy, but I feel very blessed to have the people in my life that I do and really would not know what to do without you guys. I am looking forward to this new job and the new experiences that I will be having within this Company. I really believe that everything happens for a reason and even when life gives you a few hard knocks, it is usually to your benefit. Once again, thanks everyone! I am very happy and looking forward to sharing some stories of my new job! Stay tuned!

Shout out

I have to give a shout out to my sister and brother in law's band Hot Souse. Being a regular Hot Souse fan, I have seen many awesome gigs where you guys rock the house and bring a crowd scared to dance to their feet all night long. This past Saturday was no different in that way, but I must say the band had a vibe like I have not seen in a while. JD and Tim have incredible talent but the back and forth of the solo's during Caledonia literally gave me chills and had me on my feet yelling "Hell Yeah!" This gig was so amazing for many reasons I am assuming. 1. It is the last gig for them at the North Side which has been a favorite bar to all of them during their 4 years together, and this was the 3rd to last gig for Hot Souse due to my sister and husband moving to North Carolina. 2. I have been in need of some inspiration and joy to my soul and I definitely got it that night. 3. The crowd was very appreciative of the talent which is always refreshing after being in bars that only play pop music cd's. 4. I could possibly be called biased, but I know for sure that this band has amazing talent and will be truly missed. I am sad to see Hot Souse be a distant memory soon, but I am also happy for my sister and her family for doing what they have been wanting to for years and moving on to bigger and better things. My only wish is that there will be a lot of reunion gigs in the future. And to think that I felt really tired that night and almost did'nt go.

Bad Breakup?

Today when I went to get my mail, I noticed that a few boxes over had a little message left on it. In black permanent marker were the words "worthless asshole". You have to be pretty pissed to slander someone on an anonymous mailbox. Poor #6031, you really know how to pick em.

Ahhh- the joy of living alone...

Last night as I was unlocking my apartment door, there was no denying that I walked into a huge spider web. I stepped back flailing my arms about and checking myself to make sure the spider wasnt crawling on me.
Well thank God it wasnt because after I regained my composure and saw that the spider was still on the part of his web that I didnt wreck, I noticed how huge that spider was. It has to be the biggest spider I have ever seen. Seriously this sucker was HUGE! Anyway, my only option was to do a duck and run and get into my apartment or I would have to sleep in my car...which believe me, I contemplated. Well this morning as I opened my door, I was hoping to see that the spider decided to make his home elsewhere. ...no such luck. Instead, he had made an even bigger web covering my whole door and he was hanging right in the middle of it at eye level. YIKES!
Did I mention that I really really really HATE spiders. So as I slammed my door shut and started to panick thinking I could never leave my apartment again, I had the bright idea that since I DO live in an apartment complex that has maintence men, they can come and take care of it. That is included in my rent right? So that is exactly what I did. I called the office and after the manager had a good laugh about it, she sympathized and said she would do the same thing and she would send someone right away. Thanks to the maintence guy who took care of it for me and then proceeded to tell me 3 more stories of these infamous spiders that are around this complex. I am not sure I will be getting much sleep from here on out.

I'm in trouble!

A Chipotle just opened 2 blocks from me. I guess this might ruin my Special K diet that I have been on since I lost my job. It's only 5 bucks to be so full you don't want to eat for a week and I justify this by telling myself I am getting protein and veggies all in one HUGE serving. Good eating!
